The drunk memory of our first kiss

August Makepeace

We were out at some party with your friends, standing next to a rotating hot dog rack. Careful not to burn myself, I set a hand back and looked up at him, eyes full of sun. The room was disgustingly pink, only further repulsing us with the too-loud music. Clearly, the DJ here was an amateur or troll. When our hands found their way together I took off like a bird in flight, rushing us both outside. Escaping the pink we locked eyes, sitting on a the curb out front. No words needed to be said. We kissed in front of some passing cars and the poor guy seated on the porch, assigned to watch the door. Both drunk and cold we held each other on that curb for God knows how long. Just us and the stars, no other thing in the universe besides our condensing form.
